Is the IBM T42 my only choice?

I hate touchpads and I like using the little eraser head pointer device inbetween the G and H keys on laptops like the IBMs. Is there any other portable laptops (under 5 pounds) with a decent graphics card 64Meg that have the eraser head pointer on them?

How is the T42? Anyone having any issues with them you hear about? Any review sites besides cnet.com would be apprechiated.

Thanks.

IBM T4x, HP/Compaq nc6000, Dell Latitude D600, Toshiba Tecra M2. The eraser head is usually only found in business notebooks.

The T4x (T40, 41, 42) have nice design. I'm kinda mad at my T40 since it broke twice, but IBM's repair service has always gotten it fixed and returned within 2 business days. My friends with Dells, Gateways, and others haven't had service nearly as fast.

I was looking at a Dell 5160, Dell 600m, and IBM T42. I'm sooooo glad I went with the T42. It's slim, light, and very ergo-friendly.

I setup a 600m a little while back. It's light and has a nice screen but I and found it to be a little "flimsy" and I didn't like that it only had a pair of buttons that required more effort to "click".

My coworker got a 5160 and I liked the 15" UXGA screen but it's larger, heavier, noisy, and like the 600m only has a pair of buttons.

The IBM cost more than both of them but after using all 3 I know why. It's very sturdy and comfortable to use. I love the buttons above the touchpad. They're so easy to "click" and they don't make any noise. My only 2 gripes about the IBM are the left handrest area creaks under pressure and IBM loads *a lot* of utilities and services on the default load. I blew away the system partition and loaded default XP and selected the IBM proggies I wanted.

Get the IBM - you will not regret it.

 for the IBM
Looks like I have the same T42 as Robor (and I am too getting a 256MB to drop in shortly ;)) and I love it. Few if any complaints overall, but they do come at a premium. I wouldn't waste my time with Dell as they seem hit or miss. I haven't used/seen an HP nc6000 but from the specs & reviews, they seem awesome as well. See if you get your hands on one for a bit and compare
