Ok, I got a toshiba satellite A25 here, it's being a real pain.

First off, when it boots up it shows the usual windows did not properly boot up and it gives you the options blah blah.

Anyways, it always restarts and fails to boot up, so we used the windows recovery and it didn't work. It just restarts when we try to start it. The computer detects the hdd as the standard 60gig.

So we pop in the winxp oem cd and try to reinstall the OS. It sees the hdd as a partition, but it will not format it or delete the partition. It sees no other partitions though. We go into repair and manually tell the windows repair to format the hdd. After it finishes, we reboot only to find that windows is still there!

Finally nothing seems to be able to "open" the partition. Any ideas why?

Are you trying to install from a cold boot ?

Basically what I'm looking for, is have you set the boot sequence in your BIOS to look at CD/DVD first ? If not, it may be reading off the HD and protecting the Drive from being overwriten.

Have you tried to run ChkDsk on it ? It may find/fix some errors.

Do you have another OS type CD (95, 98, NT, etc) ? You may be able to wipe it with one of those and then redo it with XP.

Third option if you have a Floppy is to do FDISK on it.
