Have you wonder if the gpu market is getting low... doing tricky moves like lying more than usual, and kinda cheating benchmarks more than usual...

Stuff like:

new model is twice as fast... (but is just a little)

or the new ones are much more better (kinda the same)

benchmarks like 2900XT better than 8800gtx... (8800gtx > 2900xt)

more stable and faster multi gpu.... (not much difference between 3 and 4 gpu, not to mention micro stuttering)

this new feature rocks! (no software use it)

and so on and so on....

is like they are getting more and more fresh each day with the marketing...

Well nVidia did rush out the 8800 GT and g92 GTS to downplay the 3870 when ATI was releasing that, so of course the 9 Series looks like nothing new to us, hopefully the fact that DAAMIT is coming out with the 48xx in late may early june won't push nVidia to release the G200 pre-maturely.

They've effectively had since Nov 06 to refine and work on it. It had better be just waiting to be released as soon as ATI launches the 4k series. Nvidia has been sitting on its haunches since the launch of the 8 series.

Well the 9 series flopped since it's essentially the same core as an 8800 GT or GTS 512 which they released just to downplay the 3XXX series like I said before, but yeah they have had quite some time to work on this, hopefully it really is a next-gen card.

the high end 9 series really is a flop...just a rehash of the high end 8 series. now the midrange 9 series (9600GT), THAT is an excellent improvement over the midrange 8 series.

Well, 9800gtx is MSRP @ the same price as 8800GTS and is basically the same card, clocked a few hundred mhz higher... so it's not a bad thing, just not justifying a new first digit.

But gfx has always been shady. Both companies "tweak" for certain benchmarks. And if you mix your settings just right, almost any card can win. And there's always someone who wants to believe you enough that they put aside better judgement. As for the graphs on the boxes... hell those arent even benchmarks most of the time. I'd bet dollars to donuts all these low end cards have "Memory Capacity" bar graphs showing the 1 gig 8600gs as 2x as powerful as the 9800gtx.
