Hello, I am building a new PC and I was going to purchase the P4 2.53 GHZ and I am not sure what the best motherboard to use is. I was really considering the new Gigavyte GA-8IK1100. Does anyone know where I can read some good reviews? Has anyone tried this motherboard which I believe is the "lite" version of the GA-8KNXP. I would appreciate any help.

Also is the GA-8IK1100 going to be compatible with the following hardware:
P4 2.53GHZ
Micron 512MB PC2700
Sapphire 9500 pro video card
Western Digital 80GB, with 8MB cache
Sony 16X DVD-ROM
Lite-On 52x24x52x CD-RW
Windows XP home edition

Thanks a lot for your help

I would like to know some more information on this board also...a forum search didn't turn up much. I'm headed to google now.

I'm also deciding between the IC7 and the 8IK1100, they seem to be pretty close in features, but the information I'm finding is often conflicting, and I can't find any reviews of either.

The IC7 and GA-8IK1100 are both "lite" versions of the IC7-G and GA-8KNXP. The IC7 does NOT have onboard LAN while the Gigabyte has a 10/100 interface. Otherwise they are similar. Personally I would go with the IC7. You will need a second RAM chip if you want to use dual-DDR. With your CPU and existing memory you might want to save $50-$60 and just go with a BH-7 or another 845PE based motherboard - They are less expensive and more mature -i.e. stable.

What would make you go with the IC7? Its onlyh $7 cheaper at newegg, but you need to buy a lan card. Other than that they look about the same. The only differance major layout differance is the 8Ik1100 having 6 dimm slots. The bios on the IC7 supposdely has better overclocking, but is the differance that big? Or is it pretty much a toss up? I'd just rather go with the Gigabyte cuz it has 6 dimm slots, so I could but 4x256, and 2x 512 and have 2 gigs of memory (not all at once, over time, I like upgrading in small pieces). I'm thinking of starting with 2 sticks of Pc3500 Geil ultra, 256 megs each. How does that sound? And i'll be going with a 2.4C or 2.6C, so I'm definately going with the 875P.

Thanks for your guys reply,

I am going to wait until the new 800FSB is available for P4's (2.53GHZ and up, not the 3.00GHZ - its to expensive), Will I notice a big difference from PC2700, PC3200, PC3500 memory and is it better to get 2 syicks of 256DDR ram compared to 1 stick of 512DDR (someone told me if the dimm slots are layed out the same way it does not matter, but if the dimm slots are perpendicular (some going horizontally, some going vertically) it is better to get 2 sticks, if the are all going the same direction it does not really matter then.

Also whats better for Ram, Kingston, Micron, etc...?

Thanks for everyones help!

Strange, this is the only thread about this board I can find here.

I was wondering if any of you have bought the board, and your comments on it? I was set on an Asus A7N8X-Deluxe with a Barton 2500+ but after reading about how good 875 is with dual DDR and the P4 2.4C being able to hit 3+ GHz without blinking I am leaning toward a P4 solution.

I wanted the P4C800 Asus board but it is way overpriced here ($300 CDN, vs $229 for the Gigabyte 8IK1100).

How is this board for overclocking? Does the northbridge have a fan or is it passively cooled? Anyone have links to a review?

Thanks :)

I'm able to get a 2.4C in town, but I want to know more about this board. I would prefer an Asus P4C800 but it's $299CAD, the Gigabyte is $229CAD and for comparison the Asus A7N8X-Deluxe is $199CAD (the board I would get if I went AMD route).

"Strange, this is the only thread about this board I can find here."

There is some discussion of the 8ik1100 in the stickied 8xnp thread.

I also need more information on the 8IK1100
I need Serial ATA but I hear rumours it uses the SILICON IMAGE 3112A controller (on board) NOT the intel ICH5 INSIDE the chipset?

Can anyone confirm? because I _HATE WITH A PASSION_ Silicon Image controllers (long story)

Anyone?

Anyone know if I'm wacko?!! I beleive ICH5 does SATA in the chipset without any Promise or SI "extra" controllers but I don't know for certain so if anyone can straighten me out once and for all it would be good :)

Thank you.
