Is the Fram Extra Life III automobile air filter any good?

I have a 1999 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro which has it's orignal air filter.

I would like to replace the filter and Advance Auto Part's website pulls up the Fram Extra Life III and a Purolator air filter as cheap options.

Are these any good or just a waste of money.

Someone on an Audi enthusiast website recommended a Mann air filter, but I would have to mail order that.

Fram sucks, but thats just my opinion

just for giggles and grins, call the dealer, see how much their air filter costs, oddly enough the dealer made stuff generally runs better than after market. Not always though, ymmv

I changed the air filters (yes, there were 2) on a mid 90's mercedes SL500 and the filters from the dealer were upwards of $90 each.

If it says Fram on it then it is a POS. Wix is the best filter you can buy and Purolator is good also....I think Wix might actually make some of Purolator's filters. Once again, Fram sucks. Do the research as it is all over the internet.

that's so true. though it was found, by some friend's of mine in HS, that the penzoil oil filter put in more metal shards than the fram one.
