Is the first couple days of college rigorous? I'm moving in August 31st (2 Sunday's from now) and classes start that Monday. I know in High School, the first couple days are easy. The teachers introduce the class. Maybe a couple small assignments here or there. BUT that was High School. Also, do you have to do alot of out-of-class work in college...how much "homework" does an average person receive in college? I know in HS they claimed 1 - 2 hours per night but I barely did any and I got by relatively easily. I know for a fact that's not gonna happen in college cuz they'll castrate me.

The first couple of days are a joke. The prof/TA tells you about that course and that is about it.

Depends on your major. Math/science classes usually hit you pretty good on the first day. Other areas start off a little slower.

depends on the major

im in the same position you are..i move in the 30th.

what i have collected is that you arent required to do anything.
since you are paying now its as much work as you want. do nothing and your grades will show it. try hard and youl;l get your moenys worth

Unless your professor is a jackass, like I always seem to receive.

The first class is a joke. Expect the rest to be functional if you meet like 3x a week. 5x a week, the first few are a joke.

It's the same as any other day. You often won't get homework assigned till the second day, but it depends on the class. I don't know what classes you're taking, but the "general rule" is 1 hour of homework per hour in class. In my experience, the homework isn't quite that much, but there's still a significant amount of homework in academic subjects (as opposed to, say, art). I'd say that if you're going full time, expect at least an hour and a half of work each night, when you're not working on any big projects. When you are, there will be more work.

Shouldn't the fact that you don't have to get up so early be good enough? :p Things should start off pretty slowly...it's not like you really feel like you're in college until the first wave of midterms hit anyway.

As a freshman be prepared to do several "bio" essays the first couple of days, and some small reading assignments/homework, depending on class.

I'm coming home on the weekends to work. Am I expected to do alot of stuff (eg: out of class work) over the week (excluding studying for midterms/finals of course)?

Yes, but I already answered that in my earlier post.

Hehe yeah I need to tune up my command of the English language. Remember, it's been a good 2 1/2 months since I was last in school. Plus it's like 2:50am...

Depends on the college, course, instructor. Some of the classes I have taken were not to bad. There were other though that I needed to study and do projects in that required more time. The first day of class isn't to bad, but make sure you have a syllibus for the remainding semester.

the first week of school is also the week where students are constantly adding/dropping classes in attempt to either
1. get sections w/ friends
2. get an easier teacher(basing on the syllabus)
3. changing majors

so the first week sholdn't be any major work since the prof knows that the student's might not show up on the second week.

Usually, they go pretty easy on you the first day as a freshman - especially if your not a science major. Expect homework assignments your first week though.

You need your syllabus. Go there so you're not behind on getting your books (depends on the college). But that's all you should be worried about the first day...

Oh how I miss the college experience...

not much gets done the first week because it is still the add drop period and most profs dont even take attendance. I usually didnt goto classes till the second week as i have better things to do with my time than go over the syllabus(which i can copy from a friend in my class or view online) listen to a synopsis of the course(which i can read online if i want to) and listen to the first chapter of the text book(which i can read if i want to). so how rigorous it is really depends on how much you drink and how much you party versus how much you sleep.
