Is the filter that comes with your DSL modem good enough?

I got a bunch of little generic filters from SBC when I got DSL.

Would getting something like this improve performance?

I doubt it...as far as i know, the filters just keep your phone line from static-ing or hissing. I've used DSL and phones all over my apartment both with and without the filters, and it's never seemed to make any difference either way.

The filters are for the phone.

Why should that affect the DSL?

Evidently, some of the Verizon DSL tech have heard of problems with being able to keep a connection without filters. I have no idea if that is true, but that is what they told me.

Well, a Splitter at the Main Point of Entry/telco Demarc box would be better than the filter.
