I'm looking for a new PSU to use with my new system, which i'd call average:

X2 4400+
a8n-sli premium
2 x 250G hard drive
2 optical drives
around 10 fans - 1-2 watts each
7800GTX 1 or 2

i would go with ocz 600watt. those vid cards are power hungry and if you want to use two of them nvidia i believe is recommending at least 500watts not to mention other stuff your running.

AVERAGE? You're crazy 😛. No way is that average. I"d go with Seasonic S12 for quietness, or since you might go with 2 graphics cards, go with a PC Power And Cooling SLI ready psu

7800 GTX? I guess you're not buying this machine to soon. Why don't you wait for the card to come out, see what NVIDIA recommends, and purchase a PSU accordingly.

That said, I'd go with OCZ, PC P & C, or Antec for my PSU needs.
