do you guys think the superclocked version is worth the addictional 30$? i cant seem to find benchmarks for it but users at newegg seem to like it alot. How does it also compare with the 8800gt?

Also newegg is selling the card for 167$ after rebate.

At that price you can almost buy an 8800GTS 512MB, so no.

You can find a non-overclocked 9600GT for <$150, and that's the price range where it is a good card. Close to $200 and you get into 8800GT 512MB/8800GTS 512MB territory.

Superclocked/pre-overclocked versions are very rarely worth paying extra.

8800gt is faster in most applications. COD4 seems to favor the 9600gt for whatever reason (except at very high res). And at lower settings the cards are comparable. That said, 8800gt is on average a decent bit faster than an overclocked 9600gt. I certainly wouldn't advise spending $40 more to get the 9600gt ssc when the palit base model (which includes a great aftermarket cooler) is available. I'd say @ your pricepoint, look for an 8800gt with an aftermarket cooler. There was a gigabyte for $170 a few days ago that looked good.

newegg is also offering 8800gt for 173$ after rebate/shipping. Do you think that is a wiser/ more future proof choice? I have had a 7800gt (cost me 300$) for over two years and i would like my next card to last me that long or close to that.

At $173 AR you really can't do much better than that. Is it going to last well over 2 years? Well no graphics card ages well, so not really, but there isn't anything much better so that's about your only option.

Only faster card worth mentioning in your price bracket is the 8800GTS 512MB I mentioned earlier, here is the cheapest I can find: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814127325

Is it worth $35 more? Well it does come with a free game if you are interested in Witcher, and it's probably around 10-15% faster than a GT. It will also overclock better if you want to do that. Whether or not the price difference is worth it is up to you.

Alright it'll definitely be the 8800gt if the prices can hold, otherwise it will be a non SSC 9600gt.
