Is the eVGA 133-K8-NF41 good for overclocking an Opteron?

If I upgrade I will definitely be getting a new NF4 mobo, Venice or Opty CPU, and a 7800GT. The EVGA mobo + 7800GT deal is down to $360 shipped from ZZF (if there is anywhere cheaper please let me know!). I'd prefer to get the copper model of the video card, but that deal is for the aluminum so I can live with that. I also notice mwave.com has the 144 and 146s back in stock. So I could conceivably order at any time.

Since I'd be spending the $$ for an Opty with the obvious intention of overclocking, is the eVGA motherboard a good overclocker? I read conflicting opinions.

If its not a good overclocker then I won't get the deal, and have to spend $400 for equivalent parts. 🙁 If I don't get that eVGA mobo I was thinking of the Epox 9NPA+ Ultra for $101 shipped. I know that there are good ASUS and DFI overclocking boards but they get pricey. I don't need SLI, don't even neeed NF4 Ultra features (like firewire, sata2, active armor), but I hear the regular NF4 isn't as good still. Is there any better overclocker than the Epox, IF the Evga isn't up to par?

edit: Also, what is the difference between the 9NPA+ Ultra and the 9NPA3 Ultra

I have my X2 3800 Overclocked to 2.4Ghz in my eVGA MB. with the ram divided nicely to 200Mhz.
I tried setting the HTT to 300 and the board wouldn't even post. (even though I had all the cpu and memory dividers set really low)
I got the board because of the good deal with the video card.
I'd say it overclocks, but its definately not a super overclocker.

Read the community forums on the evga website.

Right on spacelord. I'm having a tought time deciding since its a good deal yet since I'm getting an Opty the obvious reason is for heavy overclocking, so maybe I shouldn't get the eVGA deal (or maybe just get a Venice 3500ish instead).

As far as the edit, it looks like the 9NPA3 Ultra is a slightly revised version. It lacks a few things like a couple less USB ports and firewire IIRC, but the board layout has improved for the better. At $82 at Mwave.com, its pretty tempting.

so do you think for a person like me who is a first time builder that I should go with the 82 one? the 9npa3? I don't plan on OCing and I'm going to be using a 3800X2

I'm running an Opty 150 CABCE on my eVGA nF41 SLi and it's Prime95 and OCCT stable @2.82 GHz at 1.475 vcore. Nothing remarkable about it, but it's stable, and it's never flaked out on me. For the price, it's kinda hard to beat.

I see. Well much to my dismay I think I'll go with a $300 7800GT + the $82 9NPA3. I only use 1 or 2 USB ports, plus my monitor has 4 extra, plus I have this breakout panel with 2 more if it'll work in a new mobo, and I don't use lamewire plus my Audigy Platinum has a couple ports for it.

I'm thinking that if i can get an Opty 144 or 146 from Mwave.com, I may as well spend the extra $30 for a proven good overclocking mobo rather than potentially get limited with the eVGA. Though there is some people with good overclocks on th eVGA, I would feel bad from being cheap and getting a crappy overclock. Ahhh... still tho, would like to get that eVGA deal, plus I really want Quake 4 for free. Damn, decisions!

EVGA 7800GT from the Egg for <$280 shipped (after $20 MIR).
