Hi guys, I would lke to known how much noisy is the DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D northbridge fan?

I intend to build a quiet PC, so I though replacing it by a passive solution, the Zalman ZM-NB47J. But, knowing that I'll overclock my CPU (3700+ san diego) up to 2.9 ~ 3.0, would it be smart replacing it with a passive cooler ?

Or, do you have any better idea? Unless water cooling.....

you could but depends on the length of your video card...

i installed a thermalright active cooler but had to remove it after it blocked my video card...

If you get a 6800U, and are worried abuot noise, you NEED to get an aftermarket HSF. Personally, I don't think that the NB fan is loud, but I usually have a TV on, or are playing a game/movie/music (with sound), so I don't have an accurate testing environment for this. The VC goes right over the NB HSF, so compatibility problems will come into play. My advise is to use the stock fan, and find out for yourself if it is too loud, and purchase a replacement on that.

like yusef said, only you can determine the noise. my advice would be to remove the chipset fan first and apply as5. it will save you the aggravation of stripping down the board to do it later. its really easy and has my temps at 40 idle and 45 load at 2000 rpm which is silent for me. actually the idle is 37c but its kinda cool the last couple days here in ma.

i think the biggest thing you need is proper air flow in the case. good front fan(s) will help a lot.

You can control the NB fan speed on the DFI by NF4 core temp... set it to "fully on" when the NF4 core breaks ~55C and it should never go to full speed unless you have a very hot case. At partial speed the fan runs around 4000 RPM and it's very quiet.

I don't find the northbridge to be very loud, except that right before my system posts and it revs all the fans to the max, it can be heard above all my fans. So, it has the capability to be very loud, but during normal operation it isn't really that loud.

it is very loud at max speed but around 2000rpm, it is silent. Also I have a 6600gt and it touches the chipset heatsink so zalman is out.

erg....

no one undrestands... if you try to place an active cooler or passive cooler that is too tall, you won't be able to fit your video card unless you have a short video card!!!

just adjust the rpm using smart guardian... htat is probably the best way to quiet it.
