The harddrive sounded really strange and then I got an error when I tried to open a file on my maxtor 160 gb today, when I restarted I got all kinds of problems (had to boot with the win XP disc and run recovery), but when windows finally started again that harddrive was not displayed in "my computer", and in Disk Management it shows up like this:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/max...r/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=1335&p_sid=Jw1ZD"><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/maxtor.cfg/php/enduser/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=1335&p_sid=Jw1ZD">https://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-b.........p.php?p_faqid=1335&p_sid=Jw1ZD</a></a>*Bh&p_lva=#

I had 140 gb of stuff on that drive, what to do? (and I don´t want to pay $50+ for a disk recovery program).

why not put it as a slave and see if it works? check if power/data cables are secured? jumper intact?

oh if everything fails, i suggest the freezer trick. never tried it personally but i heard if you're lucky you can backup your data. good luck.

If for some reason it deleted the partition, do not touch the drive, there is some software out there that can restore a partition if the data hasnt been overwritten. I had to do this once, but Im sorry to say I cant remember the name of the software.

Is there something wrong with the harddrive or is it something else? I ran Maxtor´s test program and it seemed fine.
