Is the D Link cable modem bad

I was using the Ambec modem from Charter, and it seemed fine for a long time, then we started having trouble connecting. I bought the D Link DCM-202, and to start with it seemed to be a lot faster and stable. I use it with a USR router.
Now it is a hit and miss to get on or not. There have been problems with Charter being balanced in my area and a problem with a blade.
I leave the modem on all the time (always have), and now I never know if it is going to connect or not. When it doesn't I can restart the modem and then I can connect.
I had thought that it might be the modem heating up over a period and not working right, but my other thought is that doing this gives the modem a chance to refresh and pull in a weak Charter signal.
Any thoughts? Do I have a bad modem? Do I need to stay on Charters back?

Thanks for the reply. I used the address and got into the Dlink modem page. There are really no adjustments here - everything just says 'Success'.
I called Charter back, and finally got the info that they have a blade problem in my area. Thanks for the response. It looks as if Charter is the culprit.
