Is the creative Sb-live value 5.1 digital or not ???
What is tha MAJOR difference between:
1.Sb-Live VALUE !
2.Sb-Live !
3.Sb-Live X-gamer !
4.Sb-Live other one

I just bought the Klipsch promedia speakers and I wanted to know if I will have 4.1 surround with my SB-live value ! :)
And... will setting surround in live value remove the sound glitches in UT ?
THanks

hehe

The main difference between them are the level of features and bonus software you get. I have the MP3 5.1 SB live and it has some tremendous features. ( A lot lot I will never use!) Make sure you have high end speakers because you won't be able to ake advantage of all the features...

I'm not sure what you mean by digital, but yes, it does have a digital out.

The SB Live! is a different card from the rest, forgot what it lacks that the others have, but I don't think it made a big difference to anyone who bought it.

The regular Live!, X-Gamer Live!, MP3 Live! and Platinum Live! are all the same card. The X-Gamer has software geared for gaming, the MP3 has software geared for MP3's and the Platinum I think has pretty much everything they have and also includes the Live!Drive IR. The non 5.1 Platinum has the regular Live!Drive 1.

I can't really answer your other questions though...

1st generation: SB Live, SB Live Value. Live comes with sdpif (not optical) in/out panel. Value's extension header has fewer pins than Live.

2nd: SB Live X-gamer, MP3+, Platinum, digital/player 1024 (asia/europe market) - all are same card, added rca spdif out, different software bundle, Platinum comes with Livedrive.

3rd: added 5.1 speakers analog output.

Don't get one of the 5.1 cards if you have Klipsch ProMedia speakers, it'll be utterly useless to you.
You will get 4.1 surround with your Live Value if you hook the speakers up correctly.

you'll have to elaborate on "sound glitches in UT"
If it's a popping sound, that means you've got IRQ conflicts and you have to make sure your sound card isn't sharing IRQs.
If it's that weird echoing, turn off 3d surround sound...its a useless feature in UT anyway...I think its made for A3D not EAX.

If it's none of these, post some more info and we'll figure it out.

Good luck.

my guillemot maxisound fortissimo has optical out. its like a $40 card. and you're saying the $100 3rd generation (5.1) creative cards are only analog out?

For any gen live, you need to get Livedrive, or optical spdif panel (by creative for 1st gen live, or by 3rd party like Hoontech) in order to get 5.1 optical output. The rca spdif output jack on 2nd gen (from my friend) is funny, it's bigger than standard size, can't connect to a logitech 4.1 speakers set with rca spdif in. 3rd gen just add 5.1 analog output to use on those cheaper 5.1 speakers set with 5.1 analog input, so you don't need to use spdif.

Long time ago, there was Leadtek winfast sound 4x (forgot what chipset) with optical spdif in and out for around us$30 in Taiwan and HongKong.

Creative in sound card market is like Sony in electronic market, sells high-end consumer level (not pro level yet) products with preimum price.

You can get a coax SPDIF out without the Live! Drive. I've heard from some that coax can sometimes be a better choice than optical because optical is prone to having signal degradation as the cord gets longer.
This can be an issue with subwoofer/amplifiers mounted 2 or 3 feet from the cord. Optical is designed more for home theater systems where the DVD player is sitting right below the receiver.
