I would assume that it is, especially if it requires a Pentium to run. It probably sports a DSP though, which makes it a better Winmodem (better ping performance) than $5 cheapies.

I would bet it is a Winmodem because it requires CPU usage and also most modems now are Winmodems anyway. Hard modems are more expensive. I think Creative do mostly Winmodems so chances are you picked a Winmodem up.

Hope this helped,

Albert.

Yea it's a winmodem. I've only seen about 2 Hardware Modems lately, the Internet Gaming Modem and the USR V90. Faxmodem, they seem to not make them as much anymore.

I asked this same question on another board and they said the Creative uses DSP and not HSP so it's not a winmodem. Any thoughts?

I also wondered that because it seems to have some DOS support. I think it is a winmodem but I am still not sure. It really does not matter anymore. I have had more trouble with hardware modems than I have with winmodems. The Creative MB Flash 56 is the second best modem I have used. The best is the DSI/Creative DI3635.

It is a winmodem

One of my friend got it and when he dials, you get this pauses on the computer for about 1 second. You wont find these pauses on Real hardware modems but I find these pauses very common on Software Modems.

HSP/DSP all meaningless PR sh!t.
