As more and more jobs move overseas, will a computer job be equal to a fast food job with a college degree ? If so , can we stop it ? How ? In a broader perspective, when do you think other types of jobs will be sent overseas?

well, if you really want a response...

i take exception to that being a problem. the more outsourcing we do in just about every industry, the cheaper everyone (with money) can buy the goods coming out of those industries.

although computer and phone jobs are the easiest to outsource, just about everything can be, to a point.

though i consider myself fairly immune, being in academia ;)

the topic is general, I read it to see what you where specifically asking, it's not worth a real response.

There's talk of a lot of your American jobs being outsourced to Canada. So, i suppose it depends where u live.

i dont think its as bad a picture as people paint it to be

Lot of the jobs that are out sourced are low level implementation type jobs, lot of the design and R&D stuff will stay in the US for sure, so no the Computer Industry is not going to hell, compared to the totally over rated times of late 90s it is I guess, but its not as bad as you and most people think

Though they are coming here b/c the wages are cheaper. Once that changes, they'll all be shipped to India anyway.

I think the real question is, which level of hell is the computer industry going to? Has it engaged in oral or anal sex? :p :D

if you browse around ieeeusa.org, things are still very bleak for technical people. Unemployment for electronic/computer related field generally still exceeds the general population.

In my opinion, the fact that jobs, are being sent overseas has good and bad sides to it. To reflect on the good side, we now have to be better geeks to get a job, meaning we have to work harder, and be the best we can be. Thus we have to try our utmost to be competent in this job market, making us better.

For example, if you consider job overseas a virus, the fact that we have virus give us a better inmune system, and having a good inmune system is a whole lot important than just living inside of a protective bubble.

Well, unless the computer industry collectively accepts Jesus Christ as its Savior, I would imagine that it is indeed going to Hell. (Or so I would tend to think from listening to FelixDeKat over in that other thread..)
