Is "The Club" useless in car that already have steering locks?

My 98 mercedes slk230 has the steering wheel lock, is that the same thing as the club? Even my 96 camry had a steering wheel lock? Was "The Club" only supposed to be used for old vehicles or can I use it in my car?

just tape a piece of paper on the window that says "i'm an idiot, and eat little kid's feet".

should be about as effective as the club

LOL......another question, is the long end of the club supposed to go to the top of the steering wheel or the bottom......

Why does anyone bother to spend money on the club when anyone who really wants the car will just hacksaw the steering wheel?

i've always thought it makes your car a less appealing target so the theives would choose other targets.

The whole idea is it's not supposed to stop them, just delay them.
So when someone goes to steal a car, they see it will take longer to steal yours and go somewhere else.

Isn't there some pedal lock thing that's supposed to be better?

Put Hyundai stickers over the Benz logos. Might stop some dumb thieves. Like others said, the club doesn't prevent prevent theft, just makes it so the thief thinks....
"Ok, two identical Mercedes, that one will take 15 seconds less to steal...that one it is"
Not.....
"Ok, a Mercedes or a 1974 Ford Maverick. But the Benz has a club, guess I'll take the Maverick"

You need a trunk monkey with a club, not one for the steering wheel.

Time spent hacksawing is time to be seen by a passerby.

The club is useless because they use a pair of bolt cutters to cut your steering wheel. Buy insurance if your worried about theft.

BTW- why are they called "pair" like pair of pliers and pair of bolt cutters? It's only one implement. 😛

Yup, more risk. That's the point of the club, changing the risk/reward ratio for your car. Which is great if you've got a Camry parked among Taurases (Taurii? heh), but when you introduce a Mercedes to the equation the risk/reward ratio is skewed from the start. Unless you're parking among a bunch of other Mercedes of course.

Actually 15 seconds is too long even for a hacksaw, like Zebo said bolt cutters work great too...looking at more like 1 to 5 seconds then to cut/split wheel/toss club aside.

You don't even have to do that. just snip the wheel in one spot, pry it open, slip the club off and push the wheel stright again if you want. I just think it's inconvienent to deal with the club over the life of the car for the potential reward of not getting your car stolen since the club is a pain to deal with occupies space when not used and trivial to circumvent. There are some clubs which encase the shifter I think would work better but then liquid nitrogen and a hammer and it bypassed. But what do I know..I still leave my keys in the visor and never lock anything.
