Is the clip that comes with that Alpha PAL6035 really that bad?

I've been reading some threads and I was wondering if this clip was really that bad. I get my Alpha probably tomorrow or Tuesday and was just curious if there was any problems people were having with these clips/HS-F while cooling off their AMD Thunderbirds. Of course I'll be using Arctic Silver compound. Any opinions would be helpful =)

There are, i think, 4 different clips... You likely will get the latest, but the differences are : Socket 370/Celeron ; P3-FC Coppermine ; Original Socket A clip ; Revised Socket A clip. The last one comes on the alpha's with removable foam rubber "feet". IT applies mroe clip pressure than the older ones, but you shouldn't have any problems installing it.

Sounds good. Thanks for the fast reply. I just hope I have a lot less hassles with the onboard Highpoint controller than I did with the onboard 686B UDMA/100 on the MSI boards I've went through. Anybody have any probs with the Highpoint, or anything I should know about - please let me know. Thanks guys!

You may have jumped from the frying pan into the fire with the Abit RAID mobo, as far as the HP controllers go - but only time will tell. IMO, the best solution might have been a high quality motherboard and a separate add-in Promise controller card.

The clip on the 6035 is one of the most pleasant installing/removing HSF experiences I've had. I just hook the catch at the top, and use my thumbs to push the clip on the bottom socket catch. No screwdriver, no danger of damage.

I've used both the Promise Fasttrak 66 PCI Raid Card with an Abit BM6 AND the KT7-Raid board. I had MANY problems with the Promise card and none with the KT7/Highpoint. In both cases I was using Raid 0 with the same two Maxtor 53073H4s 30gb 7200rpm drives. The highpoint is also faster according to HD Tach and Winbench. In all fairness, the KT7 tests were with a faster processor. Cel 880 vs Tbird 1100. More than once I thought I had the Promise card under control and it would find a new way glitch. I was afraid I was going to flash and re-driver it to death.

Well I finally got my PAL6035 from 2Cooltek today with a bunch of other goodies :) I went all out, I have the ultimate cooling rig now :) My Abit KT7 is going to come tomorrow according to FEDEX, whoohoo!

Back on topic though, the clip for the Alpha sure does look pretty weak. I hope it gives enough pressure! :(
