Is the Canon PowerShot A530 any good?

Is the Canon PowerShot A530 any good? I just bought one and some of the pictures I take in doors are abit blurry, I have 30 days to try it out then I can take it back if I'm not happy with it.

Should I keep it or is there something better for about the same price? I payed $188 + tac in Canada for it.

share the pics? i have the A540 (same except 2.5" lcd, 6mp). I think it's excellent for the price. The next step up would cost $100 more and not be that much better. I don't know about all of the brands but that is a great camera for the price.

just rememeber to get a 1-2 gig memory card. and nimh batteries cuz alkalines's last like 2 seconds then die lol.

I've got the A530 and it's great. I keep a 2g card in it and have had no problems at all. Are you using it on Auto?

I was asking a similar question on here a few days ago and it seems the Fujifilm FinePix F20 is the best camera below $200(if you can find it). I had my eye on the A530/A540 but from what I heard the F20 was the one to get even over them.

That's good to know. I had a Fuji FinePix 1300 a few years ago that took awesome photos. The color was outstanding, but I've had or used 3 other Fuji cameras since then and was unimpressed with the color. I've use Canon since and have been very happy with the results. Fuji used to use the xd card which, at the time, was more expensive and a little harder to find. Not sure if that's changed. I guess it's time to check out steve's digicam page. He usually has some good pics to compare.

i bought one but returned it.

the pictures felt soft and lacked sharpness. the camera itself felt cheap.

the F20 or A530? Yeah they still use xD cards unfortunately.

I bought my brother and his wife a Powershot camera/printer bundle for Christmas and I haven't been too impressed with the camera or the results they're getting.

Occasionally I see lower-end Panasonic Lumix models for close to $200 and that would be a good buy IMHO, as none of their Lumix models are real clunkers. I've personally owned two of their high-end Lumix models and couldn't have been more pleased with them, closest thing to an actual DSLR without anteing up for the real McCoy and superb optics for their price. Only reason I no longer shoot them is I moved back to Leica themselves ...

I have the A530 and it works great all the pics linked in my sig were taken with it. sometimes I get blurry pics, but it's my fault for not holding the camera steady. also, use the "marco" option for the closeups

i have the 540 and it's awesome
pretty much one of the best digital cameras in that range of optical zoom capabilities
the 530 isn't much different just a smaller lcd display i believe, which should actually be of benefit translating into more battery life

also my camera is perfectly supported in linux

I've got a 530 too. I've noticed sometimes taking close pictures it tends to blur them. You've got to stay back a good 2 feet to take a picture of an object. I don't think turning macro mode on helped this at all either. I was trying to take a picture of a beer bottle from like a foot away and it kept coming out fuzzy. I had it on auto too cuz I'm no photographics genius with all the shutter speed, light levels, etc.

Superfine seems to help abit, Anyone else have this cam are they happy with it?
