Is the Canon AIO MP760 good for me?

I'm going to be using it mostly for school work but occasionally for photos too. Scanner and Copier is a must but no need for fax. I notice that there are replacement cartridges for this particular model and that's definitely a plus since I'm still looking for something to replace my chipped MP150. I've read a couple of recommendations for MP780 but not this one? Anybody have experience with this particular model? I'm found a deal from a local that will give this to me for $100 (still very new). What do you guys think?
 
I think the 760 and 780 have the same print engine (5 ink tanks - same as iP4000) - just cuts back on other features. If you have found one at a good price, grab it! (even at a not so decent price as the consumables savings can make up for it)

Is $100 a bargain or a normal used price for these. I'm asking because the price is still negotiable and I don't want to get ripoff or be unreasonable at the same time.
 
You can get over $100 for a good used iP3000 on eBay. I got my iP3000 for around $75. way early in the life cycle. And you can just about name your price for a good working ip4000 or 5000. So I'd say if it's in good working shape, you're getting off damn cheap. Another clue, there is not one MP760 machine available on eBay... There hasn't been an MP780 on there either in a long time. People that have them are keeping them - I'd almost be skeptical of the machine you're looking at unless the seller is of dubious mental capacity. Then, if you have a conscience, you'll be miserable over doing him out of its true value. Serves you right... 😉

THe MP 760 is a really great all in one----it lacks the fax the MP780 has but gains a better scanner than the MP780--or the MP750. So some one scanning small things like 35 mm negatives
or slides would really appeciate the MP760---if it works---pay the $100.00 and don't haggle.

And it an economy freaks dream---if you can refill your own like I do---you will print far cheaper than even a monochrome laser---and you can do some really high quality photoprinting
if you want to also---at super cheap prices.
 
Thanks guys. He's selling it to me because he's upgrading to a AIO canon MP950 which is quite expensive and chipped. So this gentleman doesn't seem to mind paying for premium ink. Anyways, LL, can you tell me where/what you normal buy for your refill? I've read about hobbiecolor..
 
computerfriendsinc.com is one of the oldest in the refilling biz. But I buy swiftink tanks when they're on sale.

As a matter of fact, I do use hobbiecolors for refill ink---but also top quality recommended on the nifty stiff forums are MIS and formulalabs---all three are known for very close to Canon Oem color balance. The selling points for Hobbiecolors are their very inexpensive virgin cartridges with a premade screw seal.---as I recall, a refill kit for the ip4000 type printer is $21.95 plus about $6.00 shipping for USA and Canadian residents---having or knowing someone with a paypal account is a plus.---gives you enough ink to be be roughly the same as $450 as about that amount of ink in the form of Canon Oem cartridges.---custom orders also possible.---shelf life about two years.

Just google hobbicolors on the ebay searchbar. In my personal opinion---Canon BCI-3&6 cartridges are very easy to refill.
 
thanks. I'll try these out. After reading both your comments, I believe I got on a great deal. Bought the printer home today. Heavier than I thought. So far everything is like brand new and works wonderfully. thanks for all the help again
 
Being playing around with the printer for the last couple of weeks. Everything works nicely. However, I ordered the 5color Hobbicolors set due to positive feedback and have been greatly disappointed with the result. All of the prints came out yellowish/greenish. Prints are directly from the canon's camera memory with no profiling involve. I read from nifty forum that some people were having the same issue. Anyone here experience the same thing?

I'm thinking of buying the MIS brand. Is the ink sold from computer friends MIS?
 
Before you per say blame hobbicolors do a nozzle check--sometime color shitfs are due to poorly feeding cartridge. And you can do some adjustments with software.

But MIS is good also---and also--some inks don't work well with certain photopapers.--so don't always blame the ink.

But you are just looking for a combination that works. And sometime you have to try various things until your eyeball is happy.

And sometimes outfits like computer friends will sell inks from various vendors --so ask and specify MIS.

Really..I have a brand new IP4000 sitting in a box unopened..I took the ink out to use in my IP4000 and MP780
 
I've tried everything that I can before I gave up on HC. Nozzle check out perfectly. Did plenty of mild cleaning and even threw one deep cleaning in there for the heck of it. I used the costco 4x6 with the original ink that came with the printer and photo came out great. The moment i messed around with HC, everything came out greenish/yellowish. Tried various settings and profiles and printed approx 50 pictures with no luck. I'm not really a photo enthusiast. Just more casual and would rather not mess with profile and such.

So do you buy the official MIS ink from Inksupply.com?
 
Well, the fetched prices for them probably won't hold a lot longer now that clone tanks for the new chipped Pixmas are showing up ($4.00 each at swiftink) - but they are still a hassle as you have to move the chips from your empth OEM tanks to the clones. They say the chips will be cloned shortly. After that...
