Is the bottleneck too big?

I have

Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz

and as a video card

MSI AMD Radeon 7770 1Ghz Edition

i tought i would upgrade my video card to gtx 970 sc, would i get a huge fps boost in games or would my CPU not let me get that boost?

Yeah you would have a pretty huge imbalance of power there.

The i3 and 7770 is a fairly balanced system in terms of CPU/GPU.

I would say if you want more, start a fresh build. Keep the i3 rig for backup/home theater use.

You would get a FPS in some games, but current gen (ps4/xb1 derivative) games aren't going to like the i3 at all...

Maybe i will buy the videocard now and CPU later when i have the money. But which CPU should i buy? Can i get a good one for about 250 dollars?

oh yeah, 250 bucks you can get whatever the latest K series i5 is which should set you straight for this console generation

well, there would be a substantial bottleneck, but you would still get *some* improvement. however, i would recommend buying first the CPU and the GPU later.
also, if you are on a budget, why not scoop a second hand 770? i have one and it wrecks every game, without a whisper.

Core i5-4670K 3,4 GHz (Haswell) Sockel 1150 - tray

Is this one good? And how do i know if it is compatible with my motherboard? My motherboard is H61DEL S1155 H61 ATX. I readed something about a bios upgrade, what it is, does it need one and if it does can i do it? So many questions 😀

They are not compatible. However, if I were you I would be looking for a used i5-2500k which is compatible with your current board and will be more than enough processing power for a 970.

but, does he have a OC mobo? if not, that 2500k is going to waste.

Pamuzo, can you please:
1) list the component you have (including monitor resolution and PSU)
2) tell us your budget

For the cash your willing to spend on a 970,i am willing to bet you could easily find a used 2500k and a 770/7970/280x and both those would be a pretty considerate upgrade together as well.

Or you can buy the i5 now, pocket the difference you was willing to spend on the 970 and save a bit more then grab your 970.

i just seen a asus 770 on eaby for £128 buy me now, it was £230 when it came out.
i mean seriously, its a beast and will rip any game. now is the time to buy, when everyone is buying the new 970.

What are you talking about?
The ps4 and xb1 have 2 Jaguar/Kabini quadcores (see ~athlon 5350) with 2 of the 8 cores reserved for the OS and background tasks.
All in all it's a bit stronger than an current celleron.

look at this

It's the "PC exclusive" games that might push an I3 ,the "next gen" games are a joke concerning CPU needs.

So this is what i'm planning;

GPU:GTX 970 OC Herculez
CPU: I5 3570K
Motherboard: H16DEL S1155 H61 ATX
Power: Corsair CXV2 PSU 500W 12CM ATX12V2.3 80+
Cover: Cooler Master Elite 430
RAM: Kingston 4GB 1333Mhz DDR3 2x

I don't trust ebay and used components because of earlier bad experiences, so i'm going to buy everything new. But do all these parts play together well? The CPU and GPU are the only new componets, everything else i already have on my computer.

I have the 3570K and 970 combo, plays everything great so far!
