Is the auxiliary power connector on nforce board required?

I dont want to give up my trusty Enermax 300w power supply but it doesn't come with the 4 pin power supply that the AU13 or the 8RDA3+ has. Is this connector absolutely required for the motherboard to boot? I can't find any information on this. My radeon takes the floppy power so I dont think my motherboard needs that much juce. anyone?
