Is the ATI Silencer highly recommend for video cards is it bad?

hey guys,

Building a new rig and obviously want to keep the temps in the case lower. Nothing has proven more effective at this that I have seen then Abit's OTES (outside thermal exhaust). What a great idea. Well for all I know the ATI Silencer or some other company might have had something else before ABit but Abit really pushed it out there and made it work great.

So what i'm asking is if I get a ASUS Nvidia 6800 Ultra (if I do this no reason to get a deluxe and pay more for a fan i'll be removing) would it be wise to put an ATI Silencer on there and vent the exhaust out of the case? This would drop the case temp by quite a bit I bet. I am worried about problems with the install, it not fitting right or not making the right contact and toasting the card, etc. You know all the usual problems.

I am not overclocking so is it really going to be needed? I will have a Thermaltake Shark or Lanfire Skull case with 1 fan sucking in front, 1 out side, CPU cooler, and a power supply with two exhaust fans.

I can guarantee it voids the warranty on a pricey card though... so that sucks. Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Seth

The biggest thing to me about the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencers (of all the various types) is how much more quiet they are than the stock cooling on most cards.

I would not put an ATI Silencer on an Nvidia based card!!!!!!! I would put an NV Silencer 5 on that 6800 Ultra.

Frozen CPU NV Silencer 5 Link

I put an NV Silencer 5 on my BFG 6800GT and it's LOADS quieter and idle temps dropped from 66-67C to 61C and my CPU temp dropped a degree or two to 54C (full load P4 3.2C @ 3.6).

Oops sorry, yes I guess I did mean the NV Silencer. I just thought it was the "brand" name of the fan and exhaust port company. But i guess it was line specific.

so yeah that is what I was talking about!

i still dont get why someone would say arctic coolings silencer is an abit rip off.
they need to make one for the 6600gt asap.
