It's a very good motherboard.....one of the best VIA Apollo Pro 133A...

Stable, performs very well, good for overclocking as well.

I owned one, and I think it sux. The (memory) performance is not even close to that of the BX chipset IMHO. I would go with an Abit BE6-II or MSI BXMaster.

John: with the latest BIOS, VIA drivers, and using WPCREDIT, the P3V4X performs on par with a BX board.

I ran that board for almost a year- After WPCREDIT, she ran fast. My only gripe was flaky usb- occasionally the usb would just go down( did it whether overclocked or not).

Another thumbs up for the P3V4X. I ran one for awhile and had no real problems to speak of. I used one of the pouplar utility programs to enable 4-way interleave for the memory and the memory performance was within 10% of BX after the tweaks - according to Sandra benchmarks. I don't know why so many people bash the VIA chipset boards, as long as you are willing to tweak a little, the performance is respectable.

Sandra Memory performance: P3 550E@733 - 192MB RAM @ 133mhz - CAS 2,2,2

P3V4X, bios 1004 (I think) Memory score 325/375

P3V4X, bios 1004, beta4w for 4-way interleave, Memory Score 360/410

Asus CUBX, bios 1006 Memory score 400/450

My understanding is that 815 chipset boards do not match BX either and that their performance is about halfway between VIA and BX. Anyone have Sandra scores 815?

Andy, what I failed to mention was my cbo slot1 700 would only run 933MHz on the P3V4X. I put it on my BE6-II and I ran 1022MHz all day long.

suck is suck :)

I have one and it works great. As far as memory performance goes, its not really great. I would rather have a CUSL2C or something with the Intel 815 chip. But despite the memory issue, the P3V4X is great and trouble free.

I've had about 6-7 of these boards & love em.
I run this on my current system & on my wife's as well.
HIGHLY prefer the older version with more fsb speeds.

I have owned version 1.02 of this mobo since June. The only issue I have is cold boot failure. It occurs with many owners of GeForce II cards and is a widely known problem. I have the Hercules 3D Prophet II GTS 64 Mb card. BIOS upgrades and driver upgrades do not resolve this issue. It is a design flaw in the board. The reset button has to be used to initialize your video, but only when the computer is cold, like when you boot up first thing in the morning after an overnight shutdown. You can find this and many other issues about this board located here: null Consequently, I cannot recommend this board to you at this juncture. ASUS knows how to resolve this problem, but will not officially admit to it. They have yet to produce a version of this mobo that resolves the issue. I am hoping they will come through before my warranty runs out. Newer motherboards have different designs to handle this problem and I would say to go with a more recent production model at any of several quality manufacturers. There are some newer ASUS boards that have different circuitry since the initial production of the P3V4X and do not have the cold boot problem. Be careful and Good Luck.
