IS the AMD 754 DTR 64BIT?

I just purchased what was described as an AMD Socket 754 Athlon64 2800+ DTR (Mobile) only to discover when I attempted to load Windows 64 that it is not compatible. Then I noticed that the BIOS reports the chip as a XP-M. Do any of the DTR chips have 64BIT extentions? Is it a Semperon? Help?

If its an Athlon 64, then its definitely a 64 bit chip. XP-Ms are not 64 bit. I'd install the 32 bit windows, and install CPUID or some such, see what that IDs the chip as.

s754 A64s were 64 bit chips though. Its possible you got scammed and bought an XP-M instead of an A64 DTR, where did you buy it?

Might wanna just pop the heatsink off and check out the CPU's steppings. Compare to a CHART like this to see what you've got.

Seems to me taht since it's supposed to be a mobile, it's possible teh BIOS of the desktop mobo can't read it properly. I say this because most nForce 2 mobo's couldn't properly identifiy the mobile Athlons.

There were some K8 based Socket 754 chips that were limited to 32-bit and sold as Athlon XP-Ms by HP\Compaq, you may have gotten one of those. Same as an Athlon 64 of the same cache\clock speed, only no 64 bit support.

Well I bought it here )-: Anyway I ran CPU-Z this is what it says:

Name: Athlon 64
Code Name: Claw Hammer
Specification: Mobile AMD Atholon(tm) XP-M Processor 2800+
Family / Model / Stepping: F 4 A
Extended Family Model: F 4
Brand ID: 29
Package: Socket 754
Core Stepping: SH7-CG
Technology: 0.13u
Supported Instructions: MMX, Ext MMX, 3DNow, Ext 3DNow, SSE, SSE2
CPU Clock: 1607.8MHz
Clock Multi: x 8.0
HTT Bus Freq: 201.0MHz
L1 Data Cache: 64 KBytes
L1 Instruction Cache: 64 KBytes
L2 Cache: 128 KBytes
L2 Speed: 1607.08MHz Full

So I guess it is a A64 by name but XP by nature? WTF!

There is no HS its a DTR they don't have one...however I don't feel like popping off my rigged HSF and wipping off the silver to check.

Based on what you have listed above, this is most likely one of two CPUs:

http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/details.aspx?opn=ADA2800AEP4AR
http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/details.aspx?opn=ADA2800AEP4AX

The only CG stepping 2800+'s (Clawhammers) listed. What confuses me is that the speed doesn't coincide with the information listed (it should be a 1.8GHz, not a 1.6GHz), and that the L2 cache doesn't click, either (should be 512K, rather than 128K). The Semprons are the only ones with 128K cache that I recall, and the 2600+'s are the 1.6GHz CPUs. What version of CPUID are you using?

It's a 32-bit only K8 based chip HP\Compaq used in laptops just prior to AMD launching the Sempron. There was a lot of confusion when they first came out, and there obviously still is.

If you didn't buy if from our member named DaFOBulous1 might wanna PM him. He was posting about one of these chips (same stepping code) back in May that he had purchased and was building a rig with.

I can't find that code (the "AHN" part) on any cpu chart I have bookmarked?

Sure do seem to be quite a few for sale though.

I too have the r3120 and have this exact issue. Sisoft Sandra says the processor itself is a 3000+, socket 754 based ( which is correct)
Link Look about halfway down.
