Actually TV as a whole is starting to die out. I know many people who don't even own a tv and don't care to. If you look at what tv has become it is filled with a lot of pointless garbage and often is more annoying than it is enjoyable.

I hear people say things like" having a tv on is like having a talkative mother in law in the home"

Only the TV makers were in a craze. Consumers mostly ignored it.

exactly.
They don't like the idea of having to sit with special glasses, in specific spots for best viewing. This is the same reason we do not have video enabled phones everywhere, the tech can do it, but people don't want it. Nobody wants to see the telemarketer on video that called at 3am.

I don't know if I'd consider blu-ray mainstream. It was forced on the consumer moreso than DVD was. The difference is people to a degree more readily accepted DVD because it was such a step up from VHS. Now though people are tired of having to repurchase everything again, and also see through it the "business" aspect of it. I only have a blu-ray player because it came with a TV. I'd just as soon stream my content now than bother with any of that crap.

I used to agree with this. Barely watched TV...but now that there are options and you can skip the 20 minutes of commercials in a show, I watch quite a bit :/ Not saying that's good or bad, but there is a definite shit in watching habits when you have it in your control.

I can't agree. I don't know anybody who doesn't have a TV or some sort of TV media service like satellite or cable. I agree with the pointless garbage but if people didn't watch it they wouldn't provide it. The selection of TV content is ad driven by commercials. No people watching equates to no advertising revenue...equates to no financial support for the show and it dies. Its that simple. TV is far from starting to die out in my opinion. :)

I really don't think it's fizzling out as it's become part of any mid to high-end tv by default. Pretty much any new Blu-ray player and PS3 supports the format and video games don't require much to implement.

I would be more accepting of 3D if everything that is shot in 3D stopped using stupid gimics to show you that it is 3D. I cringed at the putting in the office scene in Avatar. I saw the guy golfing and said quietly. "No ... No .... Don't fucking do it". They did it. I almost walked out.

I think Prometheus didn't have any stupid 3D crap in it. Shot normally, but with 3D cameras. The way it should be.

Soccer demos look cool. Football and baseball are probably neat in 3D.

But I don't want to pay for it and I only want to use it on special occasions like the super bowl and movie night. I don't want to watch Football all day Sunday with glasses on.

Never had any interest in 3D displays, and never will. As long as the mfg's continue to offer displays without it, I'll have what I need. Not sure about the level of hype these days. I would gather that since we still see a ton of 3D displays at BB & Fry's, that people are still buying them.
