Well when Vista comes around, my parents are looking at upgrading their old systems to be up to date, somewhat. What I am wondering, since Ill well make 2 systems, one for daily stuff and one for me to game on, is the 3007 good for gaming or is the 14ms too much trouble and cause a lot of ghosting?

I don't think its the response times that would hinder your gaming experience, however gaming in its native res. would be near impossible unless you had, say, Quad-SLI or Quad-Xfire.

Its a very nice screen by what ive heared, but you will have some serious difficulty running things at its native res.

I think the assumption is that you would sit further away from such a large screen so any ghosting would not be as noticable.

Personally, I've ruled out such a large screen because, as others have already mentioned, it would just take too much hardware to drive it with acceptable image quality.

I dont think the 14ms delay is any problem. My LCD before my dell was a 16ms 17" LG Flatron and i didnt notice any ghosting on it. I dont notice any ghosting on my 2405 either.

Not worth the price difference. You are pretty much required to SLI two top end cards and probably upgrade them every 8 months. That's too much $ wasted just to have uber high resolutions. Plus the price difference between 30 inch and 24 is also large.

I doubt it would be worth it over the 2407.
The extra resolution and size would easily be worth it.

but you will have some serious difficulty running things at its native res.
Even at non-native resolutions with black borders the size of the display would still make the image quite large.

That kinda destroys the point of having a super sized monitor though!

It would only be worth it if having a better gaming experience than 99.99% of the people in the world have seems "good" to you.

;)

Personally, I'd rather game at 25X16 0X8X on that monitor than lower res, with AA on a smaller monitor. I think any high end SLI or Crossfire could pull that off, but obviously quad SLI is the "do it right" choice.

I have a 20" viewable CRT that does 19X14 and a 24" LCD that does 19X12, and think screen size, resolution are the single most important factors in your gaming enjoyment.

So AEG finally sent you a 24" LCD eh Rollo? Thought you didn't like LCD's and that CRT's were the end all be all of displays?

If you can afford the monitor and the rest of the set up then it will be awesome.

However you will NEED a high end SLI or Crossfire setup. Think 2x7900gtx or 2x x1900xtx to run games natively at 2560x1600.

And then you will probably have to upgrade quite often as new games come out.

I'm almost certain this 3004 runs the same native resolution as my 2405 1920x1200, i run my games at that res. with all the goodies turned on with 2x 7800gtx 256

If you want to game on a big display anmd don't want to shell out for SLI, grab an lcd or plasma display in the 37 - 42 inch range. Resolutions for this size range from 1366x768 to full 1080p (1920x1080) and I can tell you from personal experience that gaming on a 37 inch 1080p monitor is simply awesome. I sit about 5 feet away from the display in my sig and love it.

Is gaming at native resolution really that necessary? I have the 2005FP which is 1600x1200 and before I got my x800xl, I was not able to game at that resolution all of the time. It still looked fine to me. Wouldn't you be able to choose another widescreen resolution and still have it look pretty damn good? If someone could please educate me if my thinking is flawed, I would appreciate it. I always hear people say this, but never have understood it.

There is a difference between looking fine and looking great. Sometimes scaling has to be done but from my experience with my Dell 2005fpw that if I can run at 1680x1050 then the game looks better than running at any other resolution.

I just got one of the 3007 and can say without a doubt that gaming is great on it. I just run the games at 1900 or 1600 x 1200 depending on the game and they look great.

Of course you can just use a smaller monitor and sit close to it and get a similar experience ; )

I dont play too many FPS, but I do occasionally play UT2k4 and CSS and usually dump the resolution down to low for max fps. Is it still worth getting (probably will get top end card but only 1)? I do plan on getting UT2K7 because Im a huge fan of the series, performance good or not.

there are very few people who actually need 30". the 3007 is no cheap item, make sure you will fully utilize it before you buy. otherwise go for the 20" 2005 or the 2405, they are far smarter options.

I think it's a personal decision as to weather lower res on bigger screen is better than higher res on smaller screen.

Personally for me i've always said to put your money on the best screen you can get because the screen is what you are looking at all the time.

if you're getting the 3007, i'm sure you'll need AT LEAST a 7900 gtx sli or x1900 xtx crossfire

the thing is, you have to see how far your gonna sit from it.

if you sit far, honestly dont even think about 2560. Unless you want to squint your pupilla out of your socket.
if you sit close, then anything below 1920 looks crap. But I would still go 2560, because native involves no scaling = better image quality.

I own one, and believe me its awesome. The only thing is that I cant get the OSD to work properly. Can anyone tell me how to get anything else either then the brightness on the OSD? There are only 3 buttons, power + and - what do I do to get all the other options?
