Is the $150 medison celebrity laptop legit?

i don't know. engadget seems to think it's a scam. so far, it's vaporware as nothing has been shipped. the company deny's the claims that it's a hoax obviously. i would sit tight and wait until someone actually get's a unit and reviews it.

A Celeron M 370, but using a VIA chipset? I guess that's one way of doing cost cutting. Others are 256MB RAM in the sole SoDIMM socket and Linux.

Well, if companies can get away with selling $350 notebooks that includes Vista and with better specs (currently in Hot Deals) then I can see an under $300 notebook with these specs and a free OS.

The better bet for a legit dirt cheap notebook is the upcoming Asus Eee PC that will start at $199 for a 2 pound subnotebook with a 7" (not 17") screen running Linux off a flash drive. Supposedly these will come out at the end of the year.

A higher end Eee PC will cost $299 and come with a 10" screen.

All signs point to it being a scam. The specs and photos listed are directly ripped from Clevo's website (a company that manufactures laptops for other companies), and Clevo says they have nothing to do with this.

At least they're using a legitimate payment service who has already stated that they're willing to give anyone a refund if this turns out to be a scam.
