Is that "Mouse Lag" ?

Hi.

Well, first of all, I'm not sure if I am posting this in the good board, but it might be related to the Mouse / Mice (I'll say Mice from now on), so that would be a technical problem, giving me issues in some of my 2-D and 3-D games.

Since I bought my MX-518, I've experienced one strange problem, that I never, ever had before.

I've had computers for five years, and it's honestly the very first time I see that happening.

It's quite difficult to explain. But I'll try.

My first example will be taken from Diablo II. That's where I noticed the problem for the first time, and that's where the issue happens the most, but not exclusively.

Let's pretend I'm playing. I must click in the direction I want my character to move. That's how Diablo II plays, for those who wouldn't know. Then the character just goes where you've left-clicked. That's in terms of mere character movement so far.

Well, what the problem causes, is to freeze my cursor for approximately two seconds. Then the cursor suddenly disappear, only to immediately appear again at a random location on-screen, and then I play for a period, perhaps ten minutes, and then it happens again.

Another issue, would be that I rapidly right-click around the "battlefield" with my cursor, for example when using a skill named Whirldwind, when playing as a Barbarian. What exactly happens is that the cursor freezes again, but then my Motherboard emmits multiple sounds in a row, only to stop a few beeps after, and then my cursor "un-freezes", and I resume my game-play.

I'm sorry but that's quite difficult for me to explain what happens.

Basically, my cursors in games, mostly 2-D, but also 3-D ones, eventually "stop responding", or freezes on-screen, while the game itself is still playing, I mean, everything goes fine, but the cursor is "dead". My Motherboard is sometimes emmiting loud "beeps" in a row, maybe five or six, so it seems it's responding to the Mice problem.

It also does that in 3-D games like Half-Life 2 and Battlefront II. And some others, like Age of Empires III, where both left and right-clicks are often required without pauses.

My previous Mice was a Logitech MX-310, and I had some un-named generic ones before that, and I never, as I said earlier, ever had such an issue.

I know that my MX-518 has the famous Mice Resolution of 1600 DPI, and that it can be changed on the fly. Etc.

I have tried to decrease that "Mice Resolution" to 1000 DPI and 800 DPI, but the problem still occurs.

I've also tried to Disable "Game Detection" in my Logitech's SetPoint options (SetPoint being the official configuration program used for the MX-518, which is replacing the older MouseWare for previous products). But it still happens. So it might not be cause by the fact that the Mice offers a better DPI than the "standard" ones on the market.

The cursor never "lags" nor freezes in the Desktop, or when doing web-browsing, or when performing any other PC activities that requires a Mice. It only happens in games.

I was wondering if what I am experiencing is what is called "Mouse Lag" ?

If not, then I don't know what word(s) could describe my issues, and all I know is that it refuses to stop. It always happens.

I have tried my MX-518 with another computer at my friend's house, and the issue also happened there. Then he pluged his generic Microsoft Mice back, and the problem never happened again.

I have tried to contact Logitech on the subject via e-mail, but I have yet to receive an answer from them.

What do you guys think about that ? What could it be ? Anything I could try and see if it helps that I am not aware of ? Somebody here already heard about such Mice issues in-games ?

Thanks for your time, and help.

I dont have much knowledge about this, but I had a similar problem with an optical mouse I have, and I fixed it by using a decent mouse pad (i know it sounds dumb but it fixed my problem).

Good Luck!

I bring this thread back to life after all.

Because, right now, there is only one game where the issue I described persists.

In Diablo 2.

And since I play that game regularly (three to four times per week when I come back from job) I find that "lag" problem quite annoying now.

I tried a new mouse pad, but the problem is still there. As I said, only in Diablo 2.

And, technically, I still don't know if my issue has ever been experienced by others here. It sounds like mouse lag to me, but I don't even know for sure what mouse lag is.
