Ads could totally be avoided if there was a little thought put into automatically embedding affililiate links (amazon, for instance) into hot deals posting. I've been saying this for at least a year, and no one seems to get it.
I've made over a $1000 putting my affiliate links into some (maybe 4-7) of the hot deals here (I stopped cause one of the mod's asked me.)
Fatwallet.com does it as do a whole crapload of other sites, and they don't have any ads, certainly not huge poker related ones. In addition, quality of the posts don't suffer, all you're doing is putting affiliate links into posts people are posting anyway.
Scary, I agree with M4H for once. More to the point, we don't allow people to actually talk about these poker places on the forums, so why are they advertising here? I don't give a damn about these places, but if they're banned, let's make it something that goes for the ads too; the duplicity just feels dirty.Originally posted by: MercenaryForHire
Horizontal ads I don't mind.
Ads for stuff I might buy I don't mind.
Ubersized vertical online gambling ads I do mind.
And WTF is that doing on a tech forum anyhow? If you've got to stoop to the level of spam, market to the demographic at least - get FleshLight to sponsor OT. I'm sure their sales would double every day for a month.
