Is that a TIG torch in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?!

where's the pole?

my welder is sad, simple ebay arc welder with a homemade AC/DC rectifier and a piecemeal ebay tig torch. My other welder is just as sad but redneck proud, made from an old mower engine, scrap steel hand welded frame and a 200 amp alternator. Uses the same tig torch from above.

Part of the custom bed I'm building for my truck.

The hobart MIG I'm using. This is my neighbor's shop. I personally have an old Lincoln buzzbox that rarely gets used these days. That Hobart does fine with the steel I'm using, 1/4" max.

heh i've got a 136A alternator waiting to be attached to an old 14hp riding lawnmower as a stick welder. i've been too lazy to rebore a pulley to 17mm for it though.

got a harbor freight modified flux core welder and a tiny oxy acetylene setup with empty tanks.

Small Lincoln MIG, flux core only for now. Recently purchased Miller plasma cutter, in process of installing compressor and air line in garage.

Got some pics around here somewhere....

I've got this one. A Thermal Arc 185 TIG. I'm thinking of getting a water cooled torch for it. My hand get's kinda toasty when you crank up the amps. Also have a Miller 180amp MIG, but it's just not as cool as the TIG

I had one of those flux core welders from HF. It was absolute junk and wouldn't weld for crap. Weld wise it was ok, but the feed was so erratic it was impossible to run a bead.

Yeah it was crap when i got it. The feed electronics were junk and had cracked solder joints. The flux core wire that came with it spattered like crazy. I added a diode bridge, filter caps, and an inductor - it does a decent job now. Even better with some Lincoln wire. I figure not bad for the $70 I paid for it + ~$30 in added parts.

Mine was $69.99, did the three jobs I bought it for then I sold it to a neighbor for $130. :D

I was going to get a decent Lincoln but the father-in-law has a multitude of welders so i'll just borrow if I need to.

How well does an alternator hitched to a small gasoline engine work? What about current regulation?
