My sister said that the reason tequila messes you up so much is because it's an upper, unlike other alcohol which is downers.

Is this true? I think that tequilla is made from some special root or plant or something that might make it different but I would really like to know.

blue agave, perhaps?

if it's an upper, it isn't because the plants used to make the alcohol are different.

alcohol is a downer! It's just that tequila dehedrates you more hence the worse hangover. Much like the bubbly!

tequila is an alcohol - a depressant. it is made from the blue agave (maguey), which is a cactus-like plant called a succulent. I don't think it gives any worse hangovers than any other type of alcohol; that's just a myth. I've had worse hangovers from vodka and rum than i've ever had from tequila and i've drank lots of tequila; it's the only alcohol besides beer that it drink now.
