Is TEAC a respectable brand of receiver?

I have a AG-V1200 receiver by TEAC, I didn't have to pay for it, so I'm happy. But I hooked the thing up to the speakers I have and the sound quality is not that great at all. I can't find much information on this model, so I don't know if it's a ****** receiver or what..

TEAC is a respectable brand. Of receiver, I cannot say. Their Esoteric line is awesome.

The receiver's about 12 years old, maybe that's it. It's not even dolby surround or whatever, it's like dolby pro logic I think

Have you tried blowing out the dust with compressed air from the air vents, and cleaning the gold contacts? It could be that the receiver is actually terrible, but cleaning it out might help too.

..years ago I had Teac open reel machines. Built like tanks and worked great. Don't know if it's the same company any more.

IIRC, Dolby Pro Logic was a Cassette Tape Compression/Decompression system and would not be part of a Receiver. If it's 12 years old it might be dying(do you hear noise when no Audio Signal is applied? turn up Volume, but play no Music and listen for Hums or other Noise), but play around with the Bass/Treble/Loudness and whatever other settings it offers. You probably just have the settings all wrong. Might also be the speakers you are using.
