I'm sick at the moment, and last night I took Nyquil, and today I took Tylenol cold, and I'm feeling completely disoriented and out of it. Is that a side effect of taking them together? I think on the back of the Tylenol cold, it said not to take if taking something else with acetaminophen.

I love that feeling :D

It depends on your body whats bad for you, it deals with Weight and Motabalism mostly. and many more thing's but if your not feeling right cut down on a dose or separate the time's further when you take em, for some people medication doesn't leave their bloodstream very fast.

both products contain acetaminophen. If you take too much of that you risk hurting your liver.

Ok, thanks for the replies.. last night (around 10:30) I took 1000mg of acetaminophen in the nyquil and then around noon I took the tylenol cold which had 750 mg total.. I'm a little "voluptuous" as I like to say so I guess I could handle a little more.. what amount starts to hurt your liver?

Which Tylenol cold do you have? List the ingredients.

If you have the one that has APAP=acetaminophen, PSE = pseudoephedrine, and guaifenesin (expectorant); then that is fine along with the Nyquil at night (the Tylenol cold during the day).

A healthy adult can take up to 4,000mg of Tylenol in a 24 hr period.

You probably feel dopey just from the cold itself, but the anitihistamine in the Nyquil might still be affecting you also.

thanks so much, rmblam

let me see..

it has in each dose:

750mg of acetaminophen
30mg of dextromethorphan HBr
400 mg of guaifenesin
60 mg of pseudophedine HCl

it's the Tylenol Cold severe congestion non-drowsy

I'm just asking cause this is the first time I've been sick that I can remember that I've felt this incredibly dopey, as you put it :) plus it's also the first time I've taken a cold medicine during the day, I usually just wait it out til night time with plain tylenol

If you take Nyquil and Dayquil at the same time, you will spontaneously combust. **BOOM! :Q** :D J/K Generally, it's a good idea to only take one of "each kind" of medicine. I.E. either Nyquil or Tylenol Cold, but not both. They have much of the same medicine. Hope you feel better.

Well, there is nothing in there to make you drowsy per se.

The dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant (a relative of codeine without the feel good, pain relief, and sedative aspects). You would have to drink a gallon of the stuff to have any possible effects like codeine.

I stand by my thoughts that you have a combination effect of the head cold and the antihistamine in the Nyquil.

Get plenty of rest and take a little bit less of the Nyquil if it makes you so groggy the next day.

Try some hot mint tea. It tastes good and the warmth helps loosen the congestion. Hot soup and the like works too.

Take care.
