Is system secure at XP login screen?

This probably sounds like a dumb question but I don't know the answer so I guess it works for me! I'm running XP pro on my home computer that is connected to a linksys 4-port router, which is connected to an ATT Broadband cable modem. I run ZoneAlarm Pro for my software firewall.

(1) What status is my computer in (as far as security or hackability) when I leave it at the login screen?
(2) Is there any difference in the status say between just powering up and being at the login screen vs using the computer and then logging off which returns you to the login screen?
(3) If i add a second computer to my network and enable file sharing on my pc, would the second pc be able to see my computer or use the files on my computer when I'm in this state?

any other helpful info would also be appreciated!

I'm not a security expert, but I would guess that there is little or no difference if it's sitting at the login screen vs. you being logged in. You should feel pretty comfortable about the security of your machine being behind a router and a personal firewall, just be sure to keep your virus protection up to date.

Second question, if you added a second machine, they would be able to swap files back and forth 🙂
