Hi, I just reformatted my friend's computer and I'm downloading drivers for it. The manufacturer of the motherboard is Syntax and the model number is S865PE. When I google this, a board from syntax and a board from chaintech come up both with the model number S865PE.

I can't seem to locate any syntax drivers, so I am downloading chaintech drivers right now. Is Syntax the same company as Chaintech? Is the S865PE from Chaintech the same as the S865PE from Syntax? If not, where can I find drivers for his motherboard?

Please help, thanks!

Just go download drivers from the respective chip makers ... they're typically much newer than those offered by the mainboard makers anyhow.

No and No. Syntax rebrands PC Chips motherboards.

The Syntax S865PE is the same PCB as ECS 865PE-A (V1.x) with private label options such as a different audio codec or LAN chip.

As Peter stated, get the latest drivers from the chip vendors whose products are used on the board. e.g. Intel, Realtek, C-Media, et. al.

Alternatively, if you install the Intel Chipset INF utility from Intel first, restart then check Windows Update, WU should have fairly recent drivers for every device on that board.

A lot of companies rebrand other ones. BFG 's motherboards were chaintech, and the evga stuff was jetway.

ECS is in the top 2 largest motherboard manufacturers, they build other company's boards at their factories too such as gigabyte and such in the past.
