Is SXGA+ worth it?

I have an IBM R32 right now and love it, so we're buying another one for our business. Thinking along the lines of a T40 or T41, but I'm seriously considering holding out for finding something with SXGA+. I'm looking for feedback from those of you that run that resolution on 14" and 15" screens, though -- what do you think?

It depends. Go to a store and check out 14" panels at that resolution to make absolutely sure the resolution doesn't make text too small for you.

SXGA+ is very nice if you need to view documents side by side. If you have bad vision like me, XGA may be a better idea.

It depends on you and what you do

I would always get at least sxga+ if the screen is 14.1" or larger, but my coworkers are somehow very happy with xga. I can't deal with such a low resolution, especially when coding

If the text is too small, you can always set windows to use large fonts.

I think sxga+ on a 14.1" (like the t41) is the perfect balance. Not too small, not too big. Go for it....

Personally I had a 600m, T40, and currently a 800LCI. I specifically bought them with the SXGA+. I am not going back to XGA unless I am forced to, e.g. X31 12.1" screen.

What? Rob, you didn't believe me when I told you it was worth it? ;)

Like I said, 1024x768 is awful to work with once you're used higher resolutions. Set your desktop to 1024x768 and work with it for a while and see what I mean.

15" sxga+ is awesome, it's perfect... I wouldn't hesitate to get it again on another laptop. It really is the perfect res for that screen size.

I agree there. SXGA+ is perfect on the 15" LCD's. I myself could handle a 14" SXGA+ or a 15" UXGA, but many people like my wife would probably dislike it. If several people in the business are going to be using it, then I would probably go 14" XGA or 15" SXGA+ (for whatever model laptop is chosen) to appease the majority of the users.

All my previous notebooks only were able to use 1024x768 till I got my T40 with the SXGA. I now run it at 1400x1050 and would NEVER go back to anything less than this display. It's not too small on the 14.1" screen and looks crisp.

SXGA+ is the perfect resolution for a 15" screen. I love it on my laptop and wish they made desktops that had that kind of resolution.

nVidia card drivers allow you to create custom resolutions. I have 1400x1050 running on my Sony 21" just fine.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I wish desktop LCDs had that kind of resolution :)

Ah... Then I agree. If they made a 18-20" LCD with 1400x1050 I'd buy in a heartbeat.
