Is SteamOS still in development? Does it support the RX 460 dGPU?

Building a budget / mid-range gaming box, with an i3-6100, 16GB DDR4-2400 @ 2133, Intel 600p 256GB M.2 SSD, and a 4GB Sapphire Nitro RX 460.

Want to offer it on local for sale lists. Looking to cut costs, possibly pre-install SteamOS, and let them bring me a copy of Windows to install if they want Windows.

Will SteamOS support that video card? I know that Ubuntu / Mint had some issue with changing out the Radeon video driver stack, such that some older cards are not supported anymore, and wondering about the new RX series, if they are supported yet in SteamOS.

Or should I bite the bullet, and buy some Windows 10 licenses?

Is steamOS downstream from Ubuntu 14.04 right now? According to AMD, their new AMD-GPU-Pro driver works nicely on 14.04 for 460/70/80

On the other hand it also allegedly works on 16.04 and that seems to be totally broken right now. (Source: Have RX 480. Run 16.04. Driver installation of AMD-GPU-Pro is broken)

Don't use SteamOS. It's somewhat broken. Ubuntu or Mint are better choices.
