Is starving to death truly a peaceful death?

No matter what your feelings are on the Sciavo case, I think that some of her husband's lawyer's comments are a bit . . . well . . . creepy.

Well, true, but that's not the question. If you'd like I can make a "should euthanasia be legal" poll.

The autotopsy will reveal that she was essentially brain dead and hopefully you people will shut up. When the time comes, I want to die naturally, the way God intended for me, and not hooked up to some evil machine designed to prevent my soul from leaving my body just so that doctors can profit from my suffering.

"You people"?

Why don't you shove your "you people" up your ass, sideways?

Maybe "you people" shouldn't jump to conclusions about what others believe because of a poll question.

Autopsy? WTF do we need an autopsy for, considering that procedure is used to determine cause of death? IMHO the cause of death is pretty well established in the Schiavo case.

"You people" are every person who would force people to unnaturally extend their lives against their will and call it "suicide" simply because they want to die naturally, as is part of God's plan.

As for your offense, I think you protest too much.

Of course the actual cause of death is well-established. Michael Schiavo has asked for an autopsy in order to dispel the ruthless slander that has been told against him. I thought this fact was well-known.

Well I guess that doesn't make me one of "you people" since I believe that people have the right to do with their lives as they see fit. It does put you firmly into the "you people" who jump to ignorant conclusions club.

Read the first post again. I have no problem with Terry being put to rest. I do have a problem with her being tortured to death.

And yet, I hope it never will be.
I hope it never will be either. What I fear is quite the opposite. That every person will be forced to accept "heroic measures" when their end of life comes, whether they will those measures or not. If you actually want to be plugged into machines and kept alive indefinitely when your time comes, more power to you. I however believe such practices to be sinful and evil.

Whatever. Your poll is obviously slanted. It is morally impossible to answer either way, and you know it. I take offense when people pull that kind of slanted sh!t and then play dumb to it.
My answer is: she was tortured for 15 years, so why are you only worried about it just now? The only kind action would have been for the original doctors not to have resuscitated a person they knew to be brain dead.

15 years ago it wasn't a national story like it is now, so what's your point, really? It's a story now, and this is <gasp!> the politics and news forum.

I am amazed that you can find a moral slant in a black and white, yes or no question. LOL.

didn't you hear, they're gonna donate her brain to George W Bush. There's bound to be more intelligence in her brain than what he's using right now

Frankly. I'm thankful for the "evil machines" that help keep me alive, ie. the car that gets me to work so I can earn a living, the furnace that keeps me warm, the stove that cooks my food, etc.

None of those things keep you alive, they keep you comfortable.

I wonder how many people could survive in the wilderness without the "evil machines" they've grown accustomed to?

I'll bet the 13,000 people who died in France a couple of summers ago wished they'd had an "evil" air conditioner.

I'm just pointing out that your argument is ridiculous; I know it was intended to be that way, to an extent.

I wouldn't want to be kept alive indefinitely either; if there's no specific, treatable problem, and no reasonable prognosis for recovery, I wouldn't want to live as a vegetable.

I haven't heard anyone argue that people should be kept alive indefinitely.

If you suffered brain damage and medical science could accurately access the damage, at what point would you want to be killed? At 75% of your mental capacity, 50%, 25%...?

If you are braindead, how could it make any difference how you died? I think you have to be aware to suffer.
