My network shows 54mbps but the signal strength is always low or very low.The router and cable modem is literally a room away(approx 20ft).I have the latest firmware for my router and the latest drivers for my adapter.I also use a notebook in the same room as my desktop and the speed is at 54mbps and the signal strength is always excellent or very good.

Are there any 2.4ghz cordless phones? bluetooth devices? or microwaves in the area? Also are there alot of wireless b/g networks in the immediate area? Do you have other wireless cards connecting to the router? if so, do they have good signal strength?

Did you enable extended range in the setup configuration? Its a little option thats on the software that came with the cd.
