Is something wrong with my Haswell chip?

4.8GHz 1.2v - Seems highly unlikely!

That's your VID, not the actual Vcore. Scroll down to see the reading.

It's also strange that the VID didn't change at all when changing frequencies. Are you running at a fixed Vcore? I suspect that your monitoring program (HWiNFO64?) is not reading the value correctly. Haswell just came out, so the program may need to be updated.

What happens when you Prime95 it?

I dunno, probably throttles I'd imagine!

It was set to fixed, I switched to dynamic with 1.2 targeted on load.

It's dropping the voltage now as you'd expect with an offset.

Yeah I don't know what to think, the software isn't reading things, cpuz crashes windows, and I'm feeling a bit like the odd man out as "too good to be true" won't stop playing in my head.

DP

Keep in mind it's a core i5, ram is set to 1600 1.5v xmp, haven't touched the uncore yet as I just got it setup about an hour ago.

This is 4.7 with 1.2v targeted for load.

Edit: Same core clocks/voltage, Uncore from 3.8 to 4.0GHz, stock voltage on it.

It seems very cool. What are you cooling it with? The magic of Jeesus?

lol no, just a Dark Knight II with the stock fan and some IC Diamond 7.

My Liquid Pro arrived already too it shouldn't have gotten here so quick but it's on my desk with a razor blade next to it.

Keep in mind it's not AVX so it's not loading every pipeline to the max.

Well damn then, it looks like you got one hell of a gaming chip. Grats! Test it on the gamez!

I think I will good sir.

Core @ 4.7GHz 1.165v set in bios, slight bump from the board to around 1.17v
UnCore @ 4.7GHz

Now to spend a couple days stability testing

Can you take a realtemp screenshot with it at load? Kind of pointless to show all of them at idle. Also, have you delidded yet?

Congrats on the nice chip. Seems the rumors of Haswell's demise were greatly exagerated (just like Ivy Bridge was considered "worse" than Sandy until people started buying them and figuring them out).

Well the max temps are shown, but yes I can do that.

I actually just got done reinstalling Windows 8 and putting liquid pro on my gpus and the cpu.

Give me a bit to get everything installed again and I'll run it again and cap when it's close to the end.

So much for the Haswell cant overclock crowd 😉

Considering he complained that CPU-z crashes on him at these clocks, he's obviously just setting the voltage low enough specifically for the particular tests he is doing.

You can do the same in Ivy Bridge.

This is not the definition of stress testing...

With his so golden they're platinum pair of GTX 470s retired why shouldn't a platinum i5-4670K fall in his lap?

Don't forget my i5-2500k

I'll get a cpuz, the problem is Windows 8 is missing a dependency. Just running cpuz freezes the system, even at stock, even at idle.

Certainly not claiming 100% stability though, my methods aren't the same as others and I'll be using it for awhile making adjustments as they're required.

I'm still waiting for the part where realtemp goes, haha, just kidding, 98C...

Open and close real fast works too 😀

I've seen a few people who have posted chips with similar characteristics to this one on sites that maintain per chip family OC threads.

Even if it's not rock stable, it's definitely pretty lucky to find one that has such nice temps. Just enough glue replicates what most people have to delid to get.

Balla have you tried any games?
How are those 7950's now that you have a good cpu to drive them?

Crysis 3, because my i3-540 couldn't even do 40, and when I went into the dam area it was doing 20 fps D:

Other than that just Valley because my old score was so painful, I'll download more tonight maybe go for 5GHz in the morning before some gaming.

Hope your 7950s don't start crashing when you remove the CPU bottleneck 😀.

My 7970 and 7950 always finds a way to overheat when i remove the CPU bottleneck >.<

Balla, move on from the cardboard, and get a case! Where is your lab, the garage? Don't remember what part of the country you are in, but in MA, it's to hot in my garage in June/July. Good numbers so far, I can't believe there are not more posting o/c's experiences here. Thanks.

This chip has a weak uncore, I was actually fighting with it all morning but I think I've turned a corner.

Anyways, I think this is what most of you wanted to see.

Balla, if you need a case, I have a Source 210 or Carbide 200r.

Free, just pay shipping.
