Is something wrong, or is it just me?

Just had a phone interview...

They said they really want a person with 5 years or more experience with Autocad 2007....o_O

I guess I should wish them luck?

Meh how long have you been drawing in cad?

There are lots of unemployed CAD designers out there right now...

A lot of the time when they say that and you tell them you have been a user since previous autocad releases they don't have any issues. The changes between the versions are not that significant until the last two or three and those were nothing that previous users couldn't get up to speed with quickly.

autodesk release schedule is a bit odd, in that I already have retail releases of autocad 2012 products and the 2013 betas are under way.

2007 was the first version with the Ribbon toolbar, correct?

That is what I said. I used it everyday in my previous job, but they did not migrate to 07 until 3 months prior to leaving my previous job. They said it had to be 07.

They = idiots for using that excuse.

It was most likely for some other reason. Perhaps you didn't shower well enough before the interview?

Maybe it was a test to see how much you valued pure math over people- and problem-solving skills. If I needed to hire somebody in design or customer service, I'd definitely have at least one nonsense question in my list.

Hahahaha...maybe the have smell tech. because it was a phone interview. Yeah, I didn't think the person liked me that much either. He seemed to have a problem with me when I said that for the past few months I have bring independent work with embedded systems. Oh well...back to more interviews...

I thought it was 2010 version but then again most of my company is still on 2005. They try rolling out 2010 on some projects recently.

Actually it was probably 2009 because that is the version I purchased and it did have the Ribbon.

From what I can see, the only major feature 2007 added was the DWG 2007 file format. I don't really see any reason why 2007 is different from 06 or 05. OP, where you talking to a clueless HR person or an actual draftsman/engineer?

It was the HR person...so they may explain it.

That said, maybe my former company migrated to '10. Did not pay much attention to it because the new layout always pissed me off, so I reverted back to the older edition, which was the same version I used in college.

Bingo. HR most likely was told that they wanted a person with '07 experience so they just assumed that anything less was insufficient. HR wouldn't know the difference between AutoCAD versions

lying is bad.. but sometimes when getting through HR hurdles you have to think about it. if you know autocad, eventually you should get to someone who can actually test your knowledge.
