Is something like the Nyko Wii Remote charger worth getting?

I like many people have noticed the Wiimote's hunger for batteries. It eats them for breakfast. Currently though I'm using rechargeable lithium Ion bats. Only problem is I forget to charge them and sometimes let the Wiimmote site idle long enough that they lose their charge and when I pick it up for a round of WiiSports or whatever I'm out-a-luck. Should I just invest in a few more rechargeable Lithiums or do you think a battery pack like the Nyko is a good buy?

Just get more rechargeables.

Are you sure they're Li-ion? Lithium ion batteries are more than double the voltage of alkalines. Are you sure they aren't NiMh or NiCd?

I have one of those charging docks if you are interested, it's not a nyko though, some other generic brand. I'll sell it for like $20 shipped NIB.

I always feel like these recharge station are a waste of money. It's niche product that doesn't work on anything else. Whereas a pack of rechargeable AAs will work across consoles and other electronic devices. Sixaxis and DS3 went a step further and included built-in battery. Why can't they just do that w/ X360 and Wii controllers?

Another vote for rechargeables. I have a ton of them between use for my camera, 4xWiimotes, and 2x360 controllers and 2 wireless guitars....plus whatever other random electronics that need them from time to time like remotes.

I've been using the Nyko charger and it works great. I know some people have had problems getting the charger to work correctly, or keeping the remotes charged. So far its been fine for me.

The only thing I don't like about the charger is the battery covers that replace the Nintendo battery covers. They make it difficult to use the Zapper, or the Wheel.

I wouldn't get the charger pack. I love my rechargeable batteries, plus I've got the option to swap them with my 360, Digital Camera and whatever else. Mine usually last quite awhile in wiimotes.

My parents have it, and I'm not terribly impressed. I just maintain a stock of always-charging rechargeables...

My nephew has that Nyko charger. It's a big waste of money if you ask me. It takes forever to charge, about 8 hours. It uses also uses NiMH batteries, which I'm guessing is what you are currently using. I'm 90% sure they don't make rechargeable lithium Ion batteries in AA size. Like mugs said, if they do, the voltage would be double.

I would get more rechargeable batteries if I were you. Energizer now has rechargeable AA batteries with 2500 mAh per charge. They discharge at a rate of 0.5% per day when not in use. Thats pretty good, because many NiMH batteries lose about 1.5% per day.

The problem I've been having is finding a charger that can charge them to full capacity. I saw a combo pack that Walmart had, that included 4 2500 mAh batteries, and a 15 minute charger. The charger would take 19 minutes to charge the 2500 mAh batteries, but that beats the hell out of 8 hours.

It was $30 something, but I was in NC at the time, and didn't buy it, thinking I'd just get it when I got home. I haven't seen it since.

EDIT: You might also want to try Sanyo enloop rechargeable batteries. They only come with a 2000 mAh capacity for AA, but they claim to retain 90% of their charged capacity after 6 months, and 85% after a year. I think I'm going to give them a try.

I bought the Nyko charger when I got the Wii. It does what it is supposed to do, nothing more, nothing less. I like it.

I inherited a Nyko charger and some radio shack charger from my parents when they "let us borrow" their Wii (meaning, they pretty much gave it to my wife and I since they played it exactly ONCE in the 8 months they had it). Both of them seem to work well, but I like the Nyko better because the batteries are a little heavier so it gives a little more heft to the controller which I prefer. It seems to charge fine.

For those that use standard rechargeable batteries, could you recommend a recharge station that is reliable and not way too expensive? I have seen some in stores, but none have appealed to me too much due to the number of batteries they can charge at once or the price is too high.

For the most part, yes. Just make sure the charger is for the type of battery you are using. Some battery manufacturers won't honer the warranty, unless you use their charger though. I found out that was the case with the eneloop batteries I mentioned earlier. I passed on them because of that.

I saw Rayovac's new Hybrid rechargeable brand, when I was at Sears yesterday. They are just like the eneloop brand, except you don't have to use their charger. They only had them with a charger though, so I bought it. It was $20, and you get 6 AA, and 2 AAA.
