Is Something Awful really *that* funny?

Recently my wife came across a post about Something Awful pulling posts from a parenting website's forums and making "comments" about them. Obviously in horrible taste and such.

Do people really find this site funny?

Cliff Yablonski hates you is one of the funniest sites on the internet IMO. I have almost been in tears reading that. :p

Rarely. Quality photoshops, and I remember reading a piece about John Romero a week or two ago that was absolutely hilarious, but that's about all I can remember.

In general it's great. I haven't seen a front page post recently that had me laughing, but most of the separate sections are worth a look. The Weekend Web, which you are referring to, used to be amusing, but recently it's been a little too weird. It looks as though the person who writes it has simply taken to going to stranger and stranger forums in order to find a higher concentration of "funny" material... and down goes the quality.

The goldmine is consistently funny, as are most of the reviews.

I stopped reading the website itself a while ago due to it's inconsistencies.

The forums are absolutely hilarious though, especially the comedy goldmine forum. You are allowed to browse for a little while, then it asks you to pay a $10 one-time fee for lifetime membership to all of the forums (not just the free ones you can browse). I think it was one of the best $10 I ever spent.

Yes, SA is very very funny. I stopped going there, though. Before I ever found SA, I pretty much had that same sense of humour. When I joined the forums, I was in heaven, for a while. Then I realized that I had nothing to say. Anything I would want to say would have already been said by 37 people. Funny thing is, though, that when you go to a forum get together, most of those people are NOT funny at all. I realized that most of those people were just bandwagoning on the funny and not really developing much on their own. It's alot like that episode of the Simpson's where everyone started acting like Bart, leaving Bart with no identity of his own.

I will give them the Photoshops, however. By far and away the best Photoshops I've seen on the web, consistently.
