If I had something critical I wanted to keep backed up in real-time, I'd get a MB with RAID or a Promise controller and mirror drives. Otherwise, I'd just use a fancy backup script / task scheduler combo. 35 dollars is roughly half (Maybe a little less) of what my raid card cost me, and it works with Win and *nix.
The opinions just expressed you neither asked for nor wanted, probably. I just felt chatty
My ABIT KR7A-133R has RAID built-in. But I used it to add my third harddisk!! It might be too expensive to have RAID-1 configuration for my hard-disk structure. Following are some of the folders which I am configurig for backing up.
1. "Desktop" folders (My wife'sand mine) from C:\Documents and Settings (in DISK1)
2. "My Documents" (My wife'sand mine) folders from D:\ (in DISK2)
3. "My Paperport Docs" from D:\ (in DISK2)
4. "My Pictures" from E:\ (in DISK1)
Since I have to create RAID-1 array for two harddisks (both are 80GB), two more 80GB harddisks are required. Most part of it would be used for backing up not-so-important files (like system files, downloaded files, Programs, Videos, Games etc). But by using a backup script or other similar s/w, I can backup only those required files.
Healthy discussions are always for good
Actually, your post only first gave me the idea of automating the backup procedure using Task Scheduler.
Thanks
