so i keep hearing that snl has gotten worse as the years go by. but many times i watch the older episodes on comedy central, and i find that a lot of that stuff isn't that fantastic.

so my theory is, people have selective memories of the old snl, and forget all the bad skits. then they look at snl now, and all they see are the bad skits and ignore the stuff that is funny (and yes, there are some funny parts every now and then, though i will admit that without will ferrell it's taken a bit of a dive)

what say you?

There are a few different periods of "old" SNL eppisodes, some of them sucked while some of them were great.

The early 90s cast (read: Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Dana Carvey, etc.) was much funnier, and much better, than the current cast. The current episodes are lame, and I watch the "Classic SNL" that comes on after the new ones.

Ok, I gotta admit I love celebrity jeopardy. Some of their other stuff was funny too, but it just got old. Always acted like retards hoping other people would think it was funny.

Yeah. It depends. I watch the old sandler and chris farley stuff on comdedy central and some of the skits are just bad. Will Ferrell carried SNL for a few years but now hes gone. The current cast has some talented people but the skits dont seem to be tapping into their potential. I dunno about having that douche from keenan and kel on there tho.
Best Current Skits: The Falconer, Weekend Update, Jarret's Room

Oh yeah. Amy Poehler as the one legged girl on dismissed was good too.

There was an article in GQ a while back talking about SNL and how some of the old seasons that some people consider classic are just not that funny.

It's the same with any part of pop culture. Why do you think people reminisce about old TV shows they watched when they were younger? Nostalgia. People view things with rosy colored glasses, and they remember things differently.

Crap yeah!! I thought this whole season was pretty bad. The only show I thought was decent was the one Justin Timberlake hosted (Loved the Andy Gibb show and Justin as Jessica Simpson was damn good). I think the writing has really gone downhill, it's just not funny.

Franco is..still dead.

SNL is/was topical, so a lot of stuff doesn't make sense out of context.

not to sound like a geezer or anything, but i watched it from
the beginning until about 1985, when it stopped being worth
the trouble.

my fave episode was the one where Chistopher Walken was hosting. It was a skit where they had a band in the studio and Will ferrell was on the cow bell...

Christopher Walken "GUess what I got a fever and the prescription... is more cow bell!"
hahaha Classic
