Blazing up with a zippo type lighter will make you feel kinda goofy, stick to the bic.

Those butane torches get too hot. You scorch the tobacco and worse yet, you scorch the rim of your pipe. Just get a real pipe lighter where the flame comes out sideways, or you can get a pipe attachment for your Zippo.Originally posted by: TheNemesis

Whenever I do it, it's just a little hard to light because the flame is small when upsidedown. So a butane torch thing would be no worse than a bic lighter?

Yeah, just lightly touch it with the flame. You don't want to burn up all your tobacco at once...

Is smoking with a butane lighter bad for you, compared to say a normal ligther?

I've always noticed a difference when using my zippo as opposed to my butane lighters when I smoke the occasional cigar for Christmas, new years, July 4th, etc. I prefer a regular lighter.

The torch that he was talking about earlier works pretty good for cigars. It dosen't take as much work to get 'em going.
