or any of their other restaurants in new york? (manhattan ocean club, park avenue cafe, the post house, citi, or maloney & porcelli)

🙂

edit: i have a gift cert for these guys, so even though i might prefer a different restaurant, i'd like to know which of these is the best

sorry, i just got your original post. it must be late here, and i'm kinda tired. i've never eaten there.

I suppose a good test would be to order a nice ribeye cooked medium-rare. Thats the test I use when going to a "new" steakhouse. No sauce or anything for me, maybe a little bit of pepper.

I have eaten there a bunch of times (NYC). Very good quality steaks. I haven't been disappointed. I prefer Gallagher's, but S&W is a solid steak house.

I keep getting promised a meal at Peter Luger's, which I've been told in the absolute best in NYC.

Not sure if this restaurant is available outside of pacific west, but MORTON's STEAKHOUSE has my recommendation.

Morton's is all over the place.

The S&W in Chicago is considered one of the best steakhouses downtown.

I'd bet it's also well-rated in NYC.

Enjoy!

There are several other steak places I'd choose first (i.e. Sparks, Palm, Morton's, Luger's) but S&W's not bad. Not the best, but not anywhere near the worst. Ocean Club is high end fancy chichi. Food is excellent but service was a little too smothering there (Is that possible? 🙂 )

coolios

i wonder if i can get reservations still

there is an s&w here in houston but i figure since i'll be in NYC in 3 weeks i might as well eat at the original

Went last week. Had the blackend ribeye medium, which was that nights special. The steak was great but not exactly the leanest.
I'd recommend Ben Benson's, best steak house hands down in NYC.

In Manhattan - Sparks, Frankie & Johnnies, Ben Bensons. In Brooklyn - Peter Lugers.

I've ate at all the above. They're incredible.

Ribeye isn't exactly the 'leanest' cut of meat. 😉😛 but oh how much flavor it has.

Also I would recommend Keens steakhouse (36th and 6th) -- It's right up there with the best steakhouses if not better and it has a really cool atmosphere and great service. Check out the 50,000 clay pipes hanging for the ceiling!!!

Oh, btw I might go there or Morton's tommorrow 🙂
