I have a Canon A40 and stuck a 512 MB compact flash card in it and it rocks! I will never be able to fill it up before downloading.

Sorry to hear about your cam.

What's the problem though? Obsoltete in the post-ebay world means that you can get it cheap on some auction place.. no biggie.. Like my printer uses obsolete 72 pin memory.. I freaked until I picked up 64 megs for $12..

I would just a couple 128 cards for around 25 bucks each :p .. Sure you wont be able to take quiet the same amount of pictures on one card as a CF, but thats pretty damn cheap. The C4000 is a 4 megapixel I believe so like 4 128's should be plenty.

I keep a card caddy with 6 SMs. I think it makes more sense than huge capacity media for cameras < 4MP.

You'll probably not see a new digicam use exclusively SmartMedia, that's for sure. :p But hey, if *your* camera works with SmartMedia, does it really matter what media format the other cameras are using? Just buy a few extras while SM cards are still on the market and enjoy your new camera!

i thought the size of the media (SM) really hurt it compared with other storage cards.. CF is smaller, SD is really smaller.

When you say CF is "smaller" I have to disagree with you. Yes, CF has a smaller footprint, but SM is MUCH thinner, making it easier tocarry in the wallet.
