i used to think so, until my body started crapping out recently. i've constantly been sick and i think it's a direct result of not getting enough sleep. but for me it's a trade off, decent grades for practically no sleep, (EE major).

yeah inadequate sleep can really weaken your immune system.

i'm more likely to get infections without enough sleep

Sleep isn't needed. After about 5 days you'll start dreaming while "awake".

I met someone at a summer camp once that went the whole 8 week camp the previous year with her eyelids held open to prevent sleep, and stopped sleeping entirely after that point. (People were put on shifts to watch her and confirm that she never actually slept for the entire 8 weeks the next year). That's how she became a cleptomaniac. She had 2 boyfriends in the camp at the time and gave them each other's watches as gifts. Literally thousands of cereal boxes and silverware/dishes from the cafeteria, along with a grand piano from the lobby were found in her room.

I usually only sleep like 6 hours..i swear if i sleep more than that I get all drowsy during the day.
Now if i go out drinking then I end up sleeping for like 8-10 hours. 🙂

Hey - someone like me in the sleep department. My wife sometimes thinks I am nuts, but I usually average between 4-6 hours per night (sometimes 3 or 3 1/2, but that is pushing it). If I sleep longer (say 8 or 9 +) I feel like a friggin zombie all darn day (like being in a "fog").

depends..... at this juncture in time yes it is.... the paper isnt.... but i do like to enjoy sleeping myslef...

If you don't get enough sleep you may live shorter.

But do you really wanna get old and senile, knowing that you slept through the best years of your life?

death by lack of sleep... what a way to go

If I get more than 6 hours of sleep I am far more tired the next day also. But I usually get 8+ on the weekends anyway.

bah, i like it. probably over 8++ hrs, you dont really NEED it, but it sure is nice 🙂

on work nights i usually only get about 7 hrs max, satisfys me, weekends usually 8-9hrs maybe.

I wish I could sleep more then I do. But most of my lack of sleep is the choice of going out rather then having to do actual work.

Nope. I get a minimum of 7 hours and generally about 8 or maybe even 9. If working I get 7.5 anyway. Since I've gotten out of the dorms and started sleeping every night I feel way better always.

Heck no! I get about 7-8 hours of sleep a night and I wouldn't be sad if I got 10 more. In fact, I would love to lay in bed all day for a day just too see if it would be as sweet as I think it would be. I  sleep very, very, very, very, much. Mmmm...laying down on my bed and putting my head on that soft, cozy pillow. Goddamn.

Is Sleep Overrated?

I do not understand the evolution of sleep. In todays society you are relatively safe.
When you had to worry about wildlife eating you while being unaware of your surroundings it could be deadly.

By some it is. By me... no. I have a tendency to underrate sleep. Maybe it's because I'm just bitter about my uncanny habit of waking up for no good reason every morning at 3 and not being able to get back to sleep.
